Flarion gets Dr.V on board
BEDMINSTER, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 23, 2001--Flarion
Technologies, a new company that has developed a breakthrough wireless
data technology for the burgeoning mobile Internet market, today
announced that Dr. Andrew (Andy) J. Viterbi has been appointed to the
company's board of directors. Dr. Viterbi is the co-founder of
QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM.O), and a co-inventor of Code
Division Multiple Access (CDMA) based digital cellular technology.
"Flarion has a great wireless technology and a very impressive
team," said Dr. Viterbi. "I am pleased to be associated with Flarion
and look forward to contributing to its success." As a member of the
board of directors, Dr. Viterbi will play a key role in shaping the
company's future and technology.
"It is a great honor to welcome Andy to our board of directors,"
said Ray Dolan, president and CEO of Flarion Technologies. "Seldom
does a market discontinuity exist as significant as today's gap
between mobile wireless technologies and the Internet. Flarion's
flash-OFDM(TM) technology is poised to revolutionize the mobile data
industry. Andy's decision to join the board is the best endorsement
anyone could have hoped for."
"Andy's vision and technology leadership has had a profound impact
on the wireless industry," said Rajiv Laroia, founder and CTO of
Flarion Technologies. "His contributions will help Flarion strengthen
our presence in the market and help our technology realize its full
potential. "
After co-founding QUALCOMM in July 1985, Dr. Viterbi served as the
company's chief technical officer until 1996. He continued to serve as
vice chairman of the company until his retirement in 2000. Under his
leadership, QUALCOMM received worldwide recognition for innovation in
wireless communication systems and products based on CDMA technology.
Before QUALCOMM, Dr. Viterbi co-founded Linkabit Corporation, a
digital communications company. He is also the inventor of the
well-known Viterbi Algorithm, a decoding algorithm used in most
digital communication systems.
