DU weapons make no sense at all. They don't need depleted uranium to stop tanks. I'm sure whoever holds the contract to produce the weapon tips feels differently.

You don't need depleted uranium to stop tanks, but it does increase the penetration and effectiveness of the rounds. If you can have a higher possibility of stopping the tank, or you can destroy it at a greater range the military is going to be very relunctant to give up this advantage.
