GSMBOX January 23, 2001
Tele.ring, mobile operator for 100% owned by Vodafone/Mannesmann, has announced the networkwide commercial launch of its GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) services in Austria. After a very ambitious roll-out of the network, supplied by Alcatel, Tele.ring is now able to offer to its end-users fast access to the Internet and high speed WAP added value services.
Alcatel has supplied its complete GPRS end-to-end solution including Alcatel's EvoliumTM radio and GPRS core network infrastructure with an integration of the Intelligent Network Platform, project management and Operation & Maintenance Centers. In addition Alcatel's Open Services Platforms, in which Alcatel is the world leader, provide a suite of applications that allow Tele.ring to introduce a new generation of value added services.
The Alcatel's GPRS network and services are a natural part of the migration path to 3G which will allow Tele.ring to provide mobile users with access to Internet information and greatly improve its position in the information society by taking a major step forward in the evolution of its current GSM network to a 3rd generation UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System).
Hartmut Kremling, CEO of Tele.ring, said that they are able to offer to their customers high speed data services such as WAP over the GPRS network since they rely on heir privileged partnership with Alcatel to strengthen their market position.
By implementing Alcatel's solution, the EVOLIUMTM GPRS, they have achieved their goal to start their service ahead of the competition. Now Tele.ring is positioned as a key player in the Mobile Internet market. <<
