Digital River sees Q4 profit before amortization

MINNEAPOLIS, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Digital River Inc. (NasdaqNM:DRIV - news), an online services provider, said on Tuesday it expects to post a fourth-quarter profit before amortization and goodwill compared with analysts' expectation of a loss as the strength of its software and digital commerce services divisions boosts results.Digital River said it expects to generate 1 cent of earnings per share in the fourth quarter, prior to the amortization of goodwill. An average of estimates from three analysts by First Call/Thomson Financial pegged the company's fourth quarter earnings at a loss of 21 cents a share.For 2001, Digital River expects to post a loss of 27 cents a share before goodwill amortization and sees an 80 percent growth in revenues in the range of $56 million to $57 million.Cash balances are anticipated to total in excess of $20 million at Dec. 31, 2001, the company said. Shares of Digital River closed up 19/32 at $7-1/2 in afternoon trade on Nasdaq. Shares have a 52-week low of $2-3/16 and a year-high of $36-3/4.
