Lewis Plans His Swansong
By Mirror Sport Staff

Lennox Lewis claimed he will fight only twice more before quitting boxing next year.

He believes he is so much better than anyone else in the heavyweight division - including Mike Tyson - that he plans to bow out while still world champion.

Lewis's unthreatened dominance of his sport is set to continue when he defends his WBC and IBF belts against the American Hasim Rahman in Las Vegas on April 21.

After defeating his major rival Evander Holyfield in 1999 and then establishing an unchallenged reign with three comfortable victories last year, it only remains for Lewis to defeat Tyson in a grand finale to his career.

He insisted there is a "60-40 chance" the fight will happen - despite Tyson's latest ban from the ring and intense business rivalry between American cable TV companies HBO, who back Lewis, and Showtime, who bankroll Tyson.

Lewis said: "There is no competition out there for me. I am better than any other heavyweight on the planet right now.

"I will fight twice more at the most."

London-born Lewis's claim is at odds with recent announcements that he wants to box on for two more years until he is 37.

But he has made it clear he intends to be a much less busy fighter after the meeting with Rahman in a bid to force rival television and promotional interests to set up the eagerly-awaited bout against Tyson.

Former undisputed world champion Tyson was banned for three months last week after failing to supply a urine sample before his fight against Andrew Golota in Detroit last October - and testing positive for marijuana use in a sample provided afterwards.

Lewis admits fans want to see him fight Tyson much more than meet little-known opponents like Rahman.

Rahman is rated in the world's top 10 but even Lewis's London promoter Panos Eliades admitted: "Lennox will win in two rounds."

Lewis is a victim of his own success and any fight other than with Tyson is seen as easy meat for him.

Lewis added in an interview with BBC Radio Five Live: "Rahman is a worthwhile opponent.

"But I know that people will always ask: Why don't you fight Tyson?

"Tyson still has raw power but it is just his name that is the selling point.

"I want the fight to happen. I don't want to retire and then have Tyson come along and claim my titles and say: Where's Lennox Lewis?

"But he knows he cannot beat me in the ring."
