Well, I would disagree. Dams are of limited use over the long term because they tend to silt up as suspended mud settles at their base.

And of course, there is the problem with disturbing migration of fish.

But mainly the problem is that there are only a few places where hydro can be employed effectively.

I'm a big advocate of Nuclear, but even more so after learning that 16% of California's power needs are supplied by only two nuclear plants. And given the technological advances that have been made in nuclear engineering, it is conceivable that power output could be substantially increased while being produced even more safely.
