NHC Communications Signs `Landmark' Contract With BellSouth Corporation BellSouth cites NHC's robotic ControlPoint(TM) technology MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 24, 2001-- NHC Communications Inc. (TSE: NHC - news) today announced a contract with BellSouth Corporation (NYSE: BLS - news) to purchase NHC's ControlPoint(TM) family of products.
ControlPoint, NHC's robotic connection technology, upgrades all copper-based telecommunications connections, including T-1/E-1, ISDN, DSL and POTS, by fully automating and remotely managing the physical layer of voice and data cross-connections. The ControlPoint units will streamline central office operations and increase customer service efficiency.
BellSouth plans to equip some of its central office sites with robotic technology. The contract also allows BellSouth the option to purchase additional models from the ControlPoint family of products for use at its remote terminal locations where DSL and cross-connect capabilities may be required.
``We are pleased that BellSouth has selected us to provide ControlPoint,'' NHC President and CEO Sylvain Abitbol said. ``It signals our growing presence and leadership in the global telecommunications market.''
ControlPoint is the only robotic automated cross-connect capable of performing the four fundamental functions at the heart of all operations performed by telecommunications companies and multiple-tenant units and multiple-dwelling units (MTUs/MDUs): loop qualification, deployment and provisioning, fallback switching and service migration of DSL, ISDN, E1/T1 and POTS.
ControlPoint 5400 has the greatest capacity of any product in the ControlPoint family. It was designed specifically for central office locations, can cross-connect up to 5,400 lines and can be cascaded up to 16,200 lines. Its robotic technology is of particular interest in the global telecommunications market, which is facing increasing demand to improve the speed, capacity, reliability and service of voice and data deliverables.
