Bombardier Receives an Order to Deliver 26 Talent Diesel Multiple Units in Germany
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--JANUARY 24, 2001 - 08:30 EST Bombardier Transportation was awarded a contract for the delivery of 26 two-car Talent diesel-mechanic multiple units (DMUs) by DB Regionalbahn Rheinland GmbH, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn. This contract, which represents the conversion of an option of an original order of 75 vehicles, is valued at approximately Cdn$71 million (50 million Euro). The new vehicles will be manufactured at the Bombardier Transportation plants in Aachen and Görlitz, Germany. Deliveries will start in the fall of 2002.
The new Talent DMUs will run on the lines of the so-called Euregiobahn between Mönchengladbach, Düren and Aachen (western part of Germany) and will also cross the border to the Dutch town of Heerlen. As part of the new transportation offer by the Euregiobahn, of which the Talent DMUs form a central part, several secondary lines were upgraded or even re-activated for rail traffic. Including the present order, Deutsche Bahn and its subsidiaries have ordered a total 164 Talent DMUs.
Commenting on the new order, Peter Buttmann, President of Bombardier Transportation, Continental Europe, said: "This project is a testimony to the success of the diesel-mechanic Talent multiple units in the market. The innovative, versatile concept of this product now even includes the possibility of cross-border traffic. With such flexibility, Bombardier Transportation continues to set the standard in modern regional traffic. Operators and passengers alike benefit from this."
