Actually this glut issue is only temporary I am sure until the broadband (DSL, Cable, 3G) gets deployed to the "curb".

Right now, 99% of the world is still doing dial-up at 20Kb/sec! Imagine the backbone network capacity requirement as we start giving users megabit/sec capacity and all the new-fangled multi-media Applicaitions finally start to happen for real on the Internet.

The so-called "glut" will be gone in a heartbeat!

Problem right now is it is so costly to build out the edge of the network and going to the "curb" is even more problematic in terms of cost and technical difficulties. There appears to be a bit of an imbalance between the capacity build-up in the core and the deployment of broadband to the end-users....once this imbalance starts to get corrected, the core will be FILLED UP very quickly I believe.
