Ted,
If you are being honest, then how can you support the Republican party...they have been the ones in Congress to squelch any attempt to raise gasoline taxes. And you are right, higher gas prices have been very effective in keeping consumption in Europe down, as an example.
It will happen naturally over the next couple of decades, as the demand rises, and supply is unable to catch up. The more prosperous the world will become, the quicker it will happen. Lets just hope that the price of oil goes up in a slow and steady pace, so that as the prices go up, people and economy can adjust.
Why do you think the legislature deregulated wholesale energy prices without deregulating the prices paid by the consumer? CA is one big Fantasyland where there are no shortages of anything.
Agreed.
Right......and coal causes much more serious air pollution problems and nuclear energy is extremely dangerous if it goes even a little bit awry. After all, Chernoybal suffered only meltdowns and avoided any serious explosions. Who knows when these problems can be successfully mitigated. It could be in ten years or a thousand.
I would prefer nuclear. As far as danger, just look at any instrument or machine in use today. Go back 10, 50, 100 years, and see how unsafe it was. It just has to be made safer, or we will have to burn coal. And as far as improvements in safety of nuclear plants, we probably lost 15 years of improvements because of lack of investments in the area.
