Exxon to increase capex 15-20 percent in 2001

Meanwhile, the company {Exxon} continued to buy back its own stock during the quarter with the excess cash flow coming from high energy prices, and it also raised capital investment by about 11 percent in the quarter. Spending on capital and exploration projects totaled almost $3.9 billion.

The company said it will raise its budget even more in 2001, with plans calling for an increase of 15 to 20 percent compared with full-year 2000 spending of slightly more than $11 billion
