Please you have yet to define filthy...[obscenities deleted]
That's one of those "I can't define it, but I know it when I see it" things.
This is a site composed primarily of mature "stock people" sharing knowledge and opinions in the hopes of helping each other do better in the market than those who go it alone. It's about stocks first, and these Coffee Shop threads are intended as a place for stock people to get into other topics without cluttering up their threads.
If you don't understand what kind of conduct/language is inappropriate in such a venue, I really can't adequately explain it. I try, instead, to illustrate by example and, where necessary, administrative action.
Folks (this isn't just for you, YYB), my "normal" way of speaking when among a small group of friends is, to be very kind, crude. When my friends and I greet each other in the morning, our language peels paint at 100 paces.
But I would never dream of speaking that way here. At home, it's acceptable because of the venue. But I've always understood (as do the vast majority of the members here) that that kind of conduct needs to be left at the door when we enter SI. We're here for business.
Silicon Investor is a quality community made up of the best and the brightest in the online-savvy investing community. That (and the wording of our Terms of Use) should be enough to guide one's behavior while participating here.

PS. Any replies, rebuttals, or outright flames (I can take it and dish it back out) are welcome via PM, but I will not get into a public debate about narrowly defining something that defies narrow definition. You either get it or you don't. If you get it, participate. If you don't, don't. |
