Here's a quote from a recent Dow Jones news story saying that Ericsson will mostly exit the handset business if their handset unit hasn't achieved profitability by later this year. This is the most definitive statement I have come across about their contingency plans: "Ericsson has said it wants to return the division to profitability by the second half of 2001, or else exit the business of handset manufacturing on a mass scale."
