hi bob

yes, you're right about difficulties downloading/installing the nis/npf updates. in fact, i went on to read a symantec bulletin or email or something on their web site that acknowledged that the update would take more than a couple attempts to fully install. i can't remember where the heck i read that, but it totally confirms what many of us have come to know about some norton updates.... if at first you don't succeed, try 14 more times. <g3>

btw, these nis/npf updates were supposed to make it so that i would have to recreate new permissions for everything. not. i checked the advanced options dialog and confirmed that the automatic firewall rule creation selection is not enabled. that should make every incoming or outgoing request produce a rule prompt.

that has not happened.

i also checked to see if i got the update by noting the version number. i see that i have 2.55 (which is the update), but also a few smaller version numbers. essentially, all looks well as far as confirming that the update is in place. but still i haven't been prompted for rule recreation.

how about you?

:)
