But long-gone, the total market capitalization of the miners in the overall scheme of things seems trivial. If you can move the price of gold around as easily as it seems by shorting and selling forward, those in the game will keep the lid on. Anybody willing and interested in blowing off the lid would surely not want to bother unless they could win and win big. To win big they would have to buy the mining companies first -- does that not make sense? Only after buying the miners would they turn their attention to seriously running the shorts on the metal.
