(Dow Jones)--Incyte Genomics Inc. (INCY) said the District Court for the Northern District of California issued a ruling limiting the scope of the patent claims of Affymetrix Inc. (AFFX). Affymetrix, which develops systems to analyze and manage complex genetic information, wasn't immediately available to comment. In a press release Thursday, Incyte said Affymetrix claimed its patents cover the entire field of DNA arrays regardless of the method of manufacture. The court rejected these claims, limiting the scope of the claims to arrays where light or another energy source is used to activate a specific region of an array for formation of a polymer, Incyte said. Incyte contends that other methods of manufacture, such as those employed by Incyte, fall outside the scope of the claim. In August, Incyte filed patent infringement suits against Affymetrix Inc. (AFFX) and Gene Logic Inc. (GLGC). -
