*yawn* there was a really lame novel around 5 years ago that described an oil-eating bacteria gone awry that devoured all the plastic in the world.

hardly an original novel concept.

BTW- a variation on the icenine concept could be the oil eating bacteria proposed to manage oil spills. I'd conceived of a novel based on these, used by terrorists to destroy a nations oil supply.
