Unless you live with someone and are forced to deal with them on issues you do not agree on, acceptance is not necessary- and reconciliation is impossible on areas of belief. I believe the world is better one way, other people believe it is better another way. I will never agree with them, they will never agree with me- we either state our positions at each other acrimoniously (which can be entertaining) or politely (which gets boring) or we don't talk. I don't see another option. I've never seen anything from someone I considered to be a member of the opposition, that changed any of my views in any way- accept to make me glad I think the way I do, since it means I don't agree with people I abhor.
