Your post is why my liberal friends and I don't discuss politics (or if we do talk about politics, we stop talking about it once our voices rise and/or we start exhibiting very straight postures).....I know I can't persuade them and they know they can't persuade me... I think what you and X are saying is true for avid Dem and Rep partisans because they're in competition. But I don't think it's necessarily true for individual people who come from different places on the ideological spectrum and want to discuss specific issues. There's lots of room for a meeting of the minds, IMO. Karen
