LoF--Funny, I remember Ronald Reagan stating in 1980 that, if he were elected, he would have the federal budget balanced by 1984. Unfortunately, during the glory days of the Reagan/Bush administrations, the national debt went from $1 trillion to $4 trillion, with neither of those two esteemed men EVER submitting a balanced budget to Congress. So I guess "balance the budget'" was in your guys vocabulary alright, they just didn't do anything about it!
Then, Bill Clinton comes in, passes his 1993 budget which raises taxes on the rich and cuts spending, and voila--balanced budget, and then a burgeoning surplus. Them's the facts, Jack... __________________________ "Balance the budget" was not a phrase in the Clinton vocabulary until the Republicans forced him (through the Contract with America) down that road. Seems like you have a very selective memory. |
