Nadine:

"It is the public duty of elections officials to impartially oversee elections, and I believe in letting them do that."

I agree with the first part of the statement and I wish that they would do that. However, that is not reality. I have been involved in politics since childhood and I know the kinds of things that are done by elections officials and in many cases these officials are party hacks who do the bidding of their party.

As for Florida, I can't say that anyone was dishonest, but I can say that anyone who believes that it is fair to change the standards of what constitutes a valid ballot from election to election, and even during the recount, has a peculiar idea of fairness. I don't care who won. I suspect either Bush or Gore will probably not be a great president, but I could not believe the stupidity of the process that was employed.

Also, from my experiences in elections, I would never agree to permit election officials to alter a ballot. This amounts to destroying the evidence if someone wanted to contest the ballots.

Lastly, IMHO there is far more election fraud than we will ever know.
