Personally, I didn't find the invocation so bad. (I watched the entire inaugural ceremony on CNN.) What jarred on me was the concluding prayer (out-vocation?). It was delivered by a black minister. But he torpedoed his usefulness as a symbol of inclusion by winding up his prayer with something like "Our Lord Jesus Christ guides America." Now, had I been Jewish, for example, I would really have felt excluded from that ceremony.
