FIBERNET PROVIDES YIPES WITH ACCESS TO CLASS A OFFICE BUILDINGS

FiberNet Telecom Group, a carrier's carrier that builds and operates in-building and metro transmission networks in major US cities, will provide Yipes with access to more than 70 buildings within its portfolio of multi-tenant commercial office properties. Financial terms were not disclosed.

FiberNet currently has lit multiple strands of fiber throughout New York City using a diversely routed SONET architecture. Last July, FiberNet awarded a US$200 million contract extension to Nortel Networks covering deployment of OPTera Metro 3500 and 5200 Multi-service Platforms.

OPLINK RELEASES 160-CHANNEL DWDM PLATFORM

Oplink Communications introduced a 160-channel DWDM platform that could be used to build systems with 1.6 Tbps capacity. Oplink's platform allows designers to create systems with a small initial number of DWDM channels that can later be scaled for higher channel counts by adding additional modules and components.

NLIGHT PHOTONICS RAISES $44 MILLION FOR ITS OPTICAL PUMP MODULES

nLight Photonics, a start-up based in Seattle, raised $44 million in its second round of financing. The company is developing high-performance pump modules to enable new optical amplifiers that will reduce system costs and increase data speeds to 40Gbps. Investors include Menlo Ventures, Oak Investment Partners, Mohr, Davidow Ventures, Adams Capital Management, Cedar Grove Investments, and a number of individuals.
