Dont forget stock market is forward looking. By the time everyone knows economic is in trouble, the worst maybe over. Believe me, nobody's forgetting that. Trouble is, we're in a mode where everybody knows this, and everybody knows that everybody knows this. So now the game has developed that you have to get in even before the recession becomes visible. Now the thinking is "things are starting to get worse, which means eventually they'll get better again, so let's get in now for when that happens". The result of that being this past month we've had the spectacle of a post-recession rally even before the recession has really begun. IMHO this market has just outsmarted itself.
