Ron, I've always been amazed at the blatant conflict of interest with the "full service" brokerage houses that play both sides of the game. They promise to pick great stocks for the retail customers. They promise to help sell the stock of the corporate customers.
Take a look at Barber & Bronson's web site. barberbronson.com On the retail side, they have posted research reports recommending four stocks: NSTK, IREG, CTHL, and USTL. On the corporate side they boast that they are currently the investment banker for all four of these companies, and managed public offering on three, including NSTK.
For the corporate customers, B&B promises to provide aftermarket support for the stock with positive research coverage. Does this mean that the retail customers' portfolios tend to get filled with stocks of the corporate customers, instead of the best stocks overall? Ron, if you don't mind telling, what fraction of your stocks that were recommended to you by B&B are listed on their corporate customer pages? |
