ild, I guess I have a problem with the no inflation scenario. When I go to the gas pump and the gas I bought last week at $1.19 is now $1.33, I call it an extra cost. But the govt. calls it volatile and not worth looking at. Damned guy at the window still wants more money, though. Have housing prices inflated? You bet. Education? Zooming. Heating bills? Yup, even in Houston. I am looking to hook my exercise bike to a generator to run my pc. <g> Anyone look at the price of a paperback book lately? Medical bills and insurance? Fuhgettaboutit. Ditto for prescription drugs. They may as well say, if your name isn't Buffett or Gates, die!

Of course, what I am saying is anecdotal and has no bearing on the macro case. Nobody else uses gasoline, housing, education, prescription drugs, heating or medical care. As long as gold prices remain low, there is no inflation. <VBG>

Or, the short answer is, I think the govt. is faking the inflation numbers, at least the CPI.
