Ramsey - RE: Telson, NOK and 3G license

When the NOK-Telson deal was first announced the same question was raised - could NOK use Telson to avoid making a 3G deal with QCOM?

At that time, I called QCOM IR and asked that question and was told NO. In order to sell a 3G phone, NOK will need to be a 3G licensee, just like to make the phones Telson needs to be a licensee.

On this latter point, I wrote yesterday (on the Buying Range thread I think) about a question that came up at the end of the CC. An analyst asked about shipments to "contract manufacturers." I thought it was a sly way to get at the Telson-NOK volume. Sulpizio answered with a sharp (I paraphrase) "We do not sell to contract manufacturers. We only sell to licensees."

From the 1/22 NOK piece that Eric just posted it would seem we are getting closer to NOK signing if they are planning to play in the 1X game.
