Some thoughts re: QCOM's sequential quarterly chip sales for FY-01.

I am starting with management’s' assumption that 90 million
CDMA units (phones, devices, whatever) will be sold in
Calendar 01. This should roughly translate into 90 million
total ASICs being sold from 10/1/00 through 9/30/01.
(Assumes a one-quarter lead-time between ASIC sale and
device sale.)

QCOM’s % QCOM
of 90 mil No. ASICs Q1-A Q2-A* Q3-E Q4-E

75% 68 mil 15 16 18 19

80% 72 mil 15 16 19 22

90% 81 mil 15 16 22 28

* Per management capacity is sold out for Q2 and lost sales
in Q2 will be made up in Q3 and Q4.

In addition to the sequential increase in number of ASICs
sold, Thornley and/or Schrock also said that we should see
ASPs edging up as the year progresses and 1X becomes a
bigger share of the total.

One final point – a response to the Morningstar analyst who
questioned the 90 million device projection. In the Q4 CC,
Thornley was specifically asked if they could expect to see
sequential quarterly growth in ASICs in FY-01. Thornley’s
answer was yes. I guess he knew what he was talking about.
