Eric - Always refreshing reading your views - not that I always like or agree with them <ggg>. One aspect of the debate about QCOM, NOK and 1X that I often find missing (even in your post) is this.

While NOK is developing its 1X chips, QCOM will not be standing still. It will be continuing its research and development efforts for bore. So might not NOK's efforts look a bit like the horse trying to catch the carrot dangling in front of it which is hanging from a stick tied to its neck?

And in response to your thought that demand for the extra capabilities will be slow to appear, I am more of a "supply-sider." That is, it might only take one killer app (for business and/or the consumer) to change the demand equation overnight.

Just food for thinking.
