Wrong. Those 50,000 Itaniums were shipped to customers who are seriously interested in testing the platform, shaking out the bugs, and increasing its reliability. Each of these customers has an active interest in seeing the IA-64 platform succeed, or else they wouldn't have bothered in the first place.

Now, if Intel all-of-a-sudden cancelled the whole IA-64 program, THEN you can call them "gullible suckers." Until then, I think the only gullible suckers out there are those who think x86-64 will amount to anything significant in the enterprise compared to Itanium or UltraSparc.
