I am mostly a lurker ... Japan has a tremendous demographic problem with a whole generation missing. Just an uneducated opinion.

Well lurqer to lurker, I think you are "spot on". Troughs in productive working age cohorts in the U.S. in the 30s and 70s and Japan in the 90s all coincided with secular (at least decade length) bear markets. For believers in "it's the economy", without workers (and consumers) there is no economy. For those trying to make the case that we are at the beginning of a secular bear, the demographics are an irrelevant coincidence. By the fall, we'll know whether we've been in a bear correction or are still in a secular bear. With no claim about education, that's JMO.
