bob,

you ask a good question. if you're up for it, here goes.

yes, lu states i have all current update. also, under advanced options, the 'enable automatic firewall rule creation' box is NOT checked, indicating that i should have been prompted for new rule creations.

per a symantec article, to confirm that i have the update, they send me to the driver file. in win2000 it's NISDRV.SYS. (in w98 it's NISDRV.VXD). if that version number is 2.55.50, symantec says i have the update patch. i have that version.

now here is where i see non-2.55.50.0 version nums....

open npf\help\about\pf

a list of 12 files appears, of which 4 are NOT 2.55.50.0. i cannot make out the filename there, just the abbreviated path in npf program files folder. so upon going there, i find a lot of files with proper version nums, but also a total of 15 files that have version numbers less than 2.55.50.0. they are as follows:

(2) DefAnnRs.dll .............. 1.2.12.0
IAMAPP.EXE ..................... 2.52.40
IAMEVENT.DLL ................... 2.5.30.0
IAMPW.DLL ...................... "
LUSPT .......................... "
N32userl.dll ................... 2.0.42.0
NISABOUT.DLL ................... 2.52.4.0
NISSERV.EXE .................... 2.5.30.0
NISUM .......................... "
NWSLNCH.DLL .................... 1999.7.12.13
SYMIPALE.DLL ................... 2.5.30.0
SYMURL.DLL ..................... "
TDIT_MSG.DLL ................... "
UMCBK.DLL ...................... "

thoughts?

:)
