dadgummit!!@#$%^^ ( I'm kinda' glad it wasn't the cables even tho' that may have solved the problem) OK, back at Multimedia Properties where the audio tab is compretely grayed out, skip over to the right tab "Devices" and click on that, then click on the plus sign to the left of the Speaker Audio Devices heading. This should give you a sub-list of any/all sound devices on your system. Right click each of them and let us know what they tell you. The registry is dangerous territory. Changes made there are instantaneous and sometimes far-reaching. If you're not fully confident that you know what's happening there or going to happen there, it's best not to trespass (for me, anyway).
