Niceguy,

I had that very discussion with someone who bought a 1.3 Gig P4 just the other day.

His Profile: Works in the Tax Department for a major oil company and pulls down around $150K. Extremely bright and creative man in his mid 40's. Works with the typical office suite of programs from Microsoft.

Said he had had "remarkable" service from Dell in the past and wouldn't consider anything else given the marginal difference in cost and his performance needs. In other words, he bought the service and brand name of Dell, not the P4. Thus the significance of AMD needing Dell. By association with Dell, AMD would have been OK with him and probably got a look.

FYI,
