No need to apologize, Grace. It's a point that cannot be overstated. "All optical," in the context that we read the term in press releases, is merely a marchetect's tool. And while we can use it effectively to describe certain discreet processes in network elements that no longer undergo o-e-o conversions, the real issue in "all" optical is still: Do you ever get away from the need, entirely, for electrical excitation (no), and at what sub-layer of componentry does this occur if the answer is yes? If you think about these questions enough, they begin to play like a conundrum. FAC
