ratan lal:

So this is what the G&K thread gets up to at the weekends! I stayed in a hotel recently in Milwaukee where the bell guy delighted in showing me that the gas fire in the room was operated by a light switch, which on a little checking turned out to operate a small solenoid valve in the gas line. I remember thinking at the time, if a switch, why not a remote? And if a remote, why not a voice activated remote, and a variable setting solenoid valve to boot? "Let there be fire! Too much, turn it down a little! And dim those lights!" All from the comfort of the couch. The mind boggles - what will technology think of next?

Have a nice weekend, and don't be afraid to think "beyond the box" when you install your upgraded gas fire!
