Presumably the overheating and poor battery life of the GPRS handsets is the direct result of the fact that they achieve the higher data throughput not through any elegant technical means but by the "brute force" approach of utilizing multiple transmission channels - I seem to remember the number as four simultaneous channels.

I wonder what that does for the concerns over health effects allegedly caused by cell phone handsets? I would think that the increased power consumption and multiple channel transmission would increase emissions correspondingly?
