Late term abortions are so rare, and the reasons most people want them so compelling, I hope they remain legal. I realize some people will continue to have very compromised babies even when they know their babies defects will never allow them to leave the hospital and that they will require hundreds of thousands or more in medical care- but that choice- in my opinion-should never be forced on anyone. If my daughter were to conceive a handicapped child I would urge her not to carry it to term. As a parent you have limited resources- I would want to spend my time and money on children who had the best chance for the future- and I would make that point to her forcefully. I would never compel my daughter to have an abortion of a damaged fetus, nor would I harbor any anger at her for making the choice to keep one- but I would hope with all my heart she did not live to regret it. Abuse rates of handicapped children are very high- because they are such a severe strain on their caregivers.
