Ted,

My point was is that here is the president one of the most powerful nations in the world joking about bombing another nation where the lives of thousands, if not millions, of people would be killed. What part of that is funny?

I don't know what it says about the person telling the joke, but there is another dimension, and that is people who got offended, and their connection with reality. I think anyone who took this to mean something other than a joke needs to have his head examined.

If people don't share any common ground, common experience, you can never make a joke, because no one would ever get it. Also, if ones puts on the politically correct straight jacket, again there are hardly left, because 99% of life becomes off limits.

I was seriously scratching my head when after escaping from a communist country, where most of the silent resistance has been sustained through jokes about communism, I come to the USA, the land of the free (and supposedly free speech), and I hear on the news that one of the New York State counties banned jokes in county offices.

This was just the beginning of the Politically Correct phenomenon, and the PC Storm Troopers were not yet in charge of speech, ideas and suppression of the freedom of conscience the way they are now.

These days, even the shortest and funniest joke "Take my wife" can be a target of the Storm Troopers.

It is funny how the melting pot has been so completely turned on it's head that we don't even have any common jokes anymore, forget country, culture etc.

Joe
