I've decided that GPRS is a moot point for Q investors except for the fact that it might delay ATT's adoption of WCDMA.

Unless an EU carrier cancels their plans for GPRS and defects to 1X or an new entity decides to setup shop with a new 1X network and go head to head with GSM/GPRS then the Eu public will never know what they're missing and thus no impetus for an EU carrier to change their plans. The poor EU cell user has no choice, it's vanilla, vanilla or vanilla.
Now if there was competition I doubt that these GPRS blunders would be tolerated much at all.

I'm sure it's been discussed but I just can't remember the reason why they just don't go directly to UMTS, why are they bothering with GPRS at all.
