Here is a concept that is taken as fact in our culture, but is actually a religious and philosophical position: Woman is the giver of life. This idea is superstition has no scientific basis. It is however the (usually) unspoken premise behind the assertion that regulations controlling abortion are illegitimate because it's all about her body and no one else's business. "We give life so it is ours to withhold".

In fact, the woman provides an environment necessary for development, and is a conduit for inputs to the autonomous creation that comes into being when her egg is fertilized with a man's sperm. Theoretically, a fertilized egg could be nurtured to viability in a completely artificial environment. In fact, technology is rapidly advancing to make this a reality and women redundant. At that point, where does the pro-abortion argument stand?

When it actually becomes a fully human baby is a religious and philosophical position, not a scientific one.
