(BSNS WIRE) Optical Access Provides Broadband IP Access Technology to Telia Company,
Skanova

Business Editors

STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 29, 2001--Optical Access,
a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of optical wireless
access products, today announced that Skanova, the independent
wholesale network provider within the Telia group, has signed a one
year agreement with Optical Access for its OptiSwitch(TM).
The OptiSwitch(TM) next-generation optical switch will enable
Skanova to deploy Ethernet to the Home, providing symmetric broadband
access up to 100Mb/s to service providers and end users in Sweden.
Skanova will deploy the Optical Access OptiSwitch(TM) for their
nationwide build-out of broadband access to residents in Sweden,
beginning with the capital, Stockholm.
The OptiSwitch(TM) from Optical Access will provide Skanova with
next-generation Class of Service technology and Ethernet to the home.
This means carrier class communication all the way to the subscriber,
enabling up to 100Mb/s symmetrical broadband connections. Optical
Access's technology is capable of simultaneously carrying, with the
highest security, Internet data and Personal TV. The OptiSwitch(TM)
also allows service providers in Sweden to provide fixed rate or
faster rates through its rate limiting and classification features.
The solution supports fiber-to-the-building, as well as copper
connections to the dwelling unit.
"Ethernet based access will be an important part of our broadband
access network," said Ove Alm, vice president of Skanova. "Optical
Access's products target precisely this market and will provide us
with the capabilities to offer our customers the best service on the
market."
"We are very pleased that Skanova, as a leading network service
provider, has chosen Optical Access as the supplier of their broadband
deployment," said Guy Avidan, president and CEO, Optical Access. "This
validates the emergence of Ethernet as a mature technology now
deployed in metropolitan and access markets. Optical Access provides
Gigabit Ethernet in metropolitan markets both over fiber and through
the air, using lasers."
