Unfortunately, the evidence doesn't back your "Little Engine That Could" thinking. Our anti-missile missiles rated about a 2 on a 10 scale in terms of effectiveness during the Gulf War. A couple of recent "find-and-destroy" missile tests over the Pacific also failed to do the job. We're years, probably decades, away from anything approaching an effective Star Wars shield.

Problem is, all this stuff remains rooted in science fiction, not fact. Reminds me of one of Joe Haldeman's science fiction books, in which starship troopers attacked their foes after they had thrown up their invisible shield of protection. The attack weapon of choice? Steel darts.

I thought most right-wingers were more concerned with Americans speaking Spanish as opposed to English. Fact of the matter is, since the split-up of the Soviet Union, the Chinese are the world's last imperialistic empire. In coming years, they're going to have to wrestle with problems similar to what the USSR dealt with in '89 and '90.
