Hi J, don't take my $50 too seriously. I think that's the long term goal for the modems to be reasonably priced, but I am not sure. But you are right, royalties by themselves won't do it for Amati. But as we know they aren't counting on that and have products. They are in over a dozen trials (according to Steenbergen) and not exactly unknown to telcos around the world.

As for USRX, I don't think they would just assemble. They would want to make at least some of the parts within the modem and the headend side. My own opinion is that they would buy the chipset (regardless of what they say) and do most of the rest themselves (kind of what Amati is doing). But I still think from start to finish it would be more than 6 months if they haven't been thinking of it at all yet. Though it's hard to believe they aren't thinking... Perhaps they are at the 'feasibility study' phase at a minimum but don't want to say anything yet.

John Hunt, thanks for the URLs. Telechoice is indeed a very important site and I will check out the other one. Re: post #439, you are right, the telcos need to separate data from voice.
