Think about it. Even if we could force American companies to manufacture here - and I'm not sure how that would be possible - what would be the result? Much higher costs. Pass those on to consumers: higher prices. Less purchasing. Lower earnings, less money for R&D, fewer new products, less progress. Foreign companies competing with our companies would continue to move manufacturing to cost-effective locations, gaining a major competitive advantage over our companies.

That's just the beginning, off the top of my head. Would the advantages be worth it? What benefits us most in the short term is not necessarily viable in the long term.
