Elizabeth, one always has to evaluate the alternatives, which would include DataPlay and other devices that may be lower cost than flash memory. There still is a market for low-cost casette players that can be used during exercise, just as there is likely to be a demand for other, less expensive devices than those incorporating MMC or secure digital cards. The devices that draw less power and have greater reliability as a result of having no moving parts are likely to command premium prices. You can see the same market divisions in digital cameras, where a Mavica with floppy disc storage costs much less than a similar resolution camera with 8mb CF or SmartMedia.

You suggest that "somewhere, something is known that is keeping buyers away from SNDK . . ." But the other side of the coin is that buyers are making assumptions based on something known about other semiconductor companies, many of which don't even produce the same types of products as SanDisk. It could be that some people have some information not available to the general investment public. Or it could be that some people have some misinformation too widely available!
