The WSJ HOTS column 1/29/2001 reported that on a trade of 10,000 shares that used to get executed in 4 transactions at 3 prices, it now could take place in 10 or 12 executions at 7 or 8 prices. That creates more backoffice work.

Also some comments on "front running" as potential trouble spot. The NYSE has a "well-armed" market-surveillance program in place for this, and has seen nothing "untoward".
