<>If they consider abortion is truly murder, then they cannot allow it under any circumstances, including rape, incest or risk to the mother's life.
False. As I have said several times, pro-lifers may acknowledge some cases where abortion is potentially ethical. In the cases where a child results of rape, the child should live because the circumstances of its conception by no means objectively overrule its right to life. If we claim they do, then we must accept that they also overrule the child’s right to life even were it born. The awful circumstances of rape do not overrule the life of the innocent child that results of it. They overrule the rights of the rapist.
Nevertheless, not all murders are equal. Should a mother murder a child that results of rape, the law might treat her with extraordinary lenience and understanding, as long as it upholds the fact that a sacred, unique and innocent human life was extinguished.
Maybe if the mother were in imminent danger of death she could plead self-defense.
She perhaps need not do even that. The fact of her life’s endangerment means by default the endangerment of her child. Both are doomed and so an abortion of the child does not doom what is already doomed.
But if a rape victim can be forced to term against her will, then I think her rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness have been truly trashed.
Again. The conditions by which a child is born presents no ethical justification for its murder. The child has rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness also, and that it resulted of a rape does not nullify those rights.
(sigh) The law should acknowledge the fact of humanity within unborn children because this fact is objectively evident in nature. The law should reflect the truth of nature so that law-abiding citizens will sense pressure to live in accordance with natural truth. But in some cases humans will not live in correspondence to natural truth. They will instead commit crime. The law makes account for mitigating factors of crime situations. In the circumstance of an abortion resulting of rape this can certainly be the case. No one is forced by any logic at all to treat women under extreme duress as if they were common murderers. Abortionists are the common murderers. They profit of innocent children’s blood. |
