TransCanada Reports Increased Earnings and Raises Dividend

CALGARY, Jan. 30 /CNW/ - (TSE: TRP) (NYSE: TRP) - The Board of Directors
of TransCanada PipeLines Limited today announced net income applicable to
common shares for 2000 was $711 million, or $1.50 per common share, compared
to a loss of $80 million, or ($0.17) per common share, in 1999. Net income
applicable to common shares from continuing operations before unusual items
for 2000 was $605 million compared to $505 million in 1999. Earnings per
share, from continuing operations before unusual items, for 2000 was $1.28
compared to $1.08, a 19 per cent increase over 1999. The Board today also
raised the quarterly dividend for the company's outstanding common shares 12.5
per cent from $0.20 per share to $0.225 per share for the quarter ending March
31, 2000.
