Dear X, I believe the Christian right made Bush President. And they certainly support Ashcroft. (http://www.nytimes.com/2001/01/07/politics/07ASHC.html). We enter dangerous territory when the Federal government wants to support religious organization as long as they do not oppose abortion. Maybe the best thing that Americans can do is to learn how tot "Impeach your Senator." The day that Bush became President of the United States was a terrible day for me. I was terrified. I wondered if we would lose our rights to freedom of expression and freedom of the press. I must admit that I never thought that we might be forced eventually to adopt the Christian religion if we wanted to remain in the "new mainstream America." I read that many young bucks, like the ones you see on SI, who have made big bucks in the stock markets supported Bush. I wonder how they will feel, if in the future, they'll have to bow down on their knees while Mr. Ashcroft's supporters anoint them with Crisco oil. Should they resist, they may lose their jobs. This is all in the future, but the future may not be that far away.
